How to Have One Footnote Continued on the Next Page

Try changing the line spacing for the text in the body of the document to an exact amount. This is an old workaround for an old bug. See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/footnoteondiffpage.htm (an article which hasn't been updated for recent versions of Word).

Thanks for responding.  I did try changing the body text to an exact amount (the body text is double spaced so I set it to exactly .28 pt) but it still carried the last 2 footnotes to the next page.

With paragraph marks (show/hide) button on see if there are any extra spaces you can delete to make room for the footnotes. You can also try decreasing the bottom margin and, if necessary, the top margin to make room for the footnotes.

Thanks Marysully, I tried that already and no luck.  I honestly think it has something to do with the placement of the footnote references. All 6 footnotes are in the very last 2 sentences of the document and the 2 sentences are 4 lines long.  There is no good way to break the sentences up because it is a legal document with long rules and code citations.  Is there a limit as to how many footnotes you can put in 1 sentence?

I do not think you are limited to a certain number of footnotes on a page as long as they fit. Since you are having trouble fitting them on the page, as a workaround, can you place them next to each other (if text allows) instead of going to the next line?

Try a slightly larger value.

I increased the value by 2 pts. and another footnote moved to the next page. :-(

Strange. Did you make sure not to enable "Keep lines together" for footnote text?
